Wayne's Favorite Piece

It took me almost a week just to get the face perfect on this piece. I worked on 6 different outlines before finally deciding this was the one. After that, I just started inking.

THE EYES: A friend showed me how to do this technique in 8th grade, where the eyes on the griffin actually follow you! I did this piece shortly after my friend passed away, honoring him with the technique.

This dragon is a royal dragon. If you look closely, you can see his crown. Here you see him coming out of his  castle, which is really a walled up cave actually, where he lives.

He's coming out for dinner. Dragons are always hungry.

The working time for this piece was about 3 weeks, but It actually took 5 months to complete, because of a slip in the ruler. I spent quite a bit of time looking at it and figuring out "how can I make this imperfection beautiful?" Because, that’s art right?

That's when I added the crack in the wall to cover the mistake. This original was in competition at the Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art in 95/96 for the Hortt Competition

I came up with this as I was sitting in the woods one day. As a child, I spent a lot of time in the forrest to escape. To get away from my family and other things.

My technique here is cross hatching and pointillism.

This actually is the only piece I ever timed, and all together I finished in 24 hours. I don't time my drawings, because if you time it, it’s work.
